Battery Recycling Plant

Li-Cycle is setting up a battery recycling facility in the town of Greece, near Rochester, New York to convert the black mass extracted from batteries back to battery-grade metal sulphate and carbonate materials. The plant is expected to be operational in Q1 2023.
JordProxa’s scope includes the design and supply of two packages: a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant; and five drying and off-gas treatment plants.
The ZLD plant will recover water from process effluent generated by the plant. It is a forced circulation crystallisation plant with energy efficient two-stage Mechanical Vapour Recompression (MVR) fans to provide energy to the plant.
JordProxa is also supplying five drying and off-gas treatment packages for the following applications:
1. Nickel sulphate (fluidised bed dryer)
2. Cobalt sulphate (rotary dryer)
3. Anhydrous sodium sulphate (rotary dryer)
4. Graphite (rotary dryer)
5. Lithium carbonate (rotary dryer)
All of the dryer packages will have high efficiency off-gas treatment equipment (wet scrubbing and bag filters) to meet the stringent emission standards of 1 mg/Nm3 particulates. The packages will be delivered in less than 12 months to meet Li-Cycle’s planned start-up date.
